Today we interviewed Stephen Fishbach. He was runner up for Survivor Tocantins. He was described early on as "the nerdy, shy guy who helps everyone". He parlayed that unassuming image into one of the greatest, powerhouse buddy alliances in Survivor history proving without a doubt that you can't always go on first impressions.

Today we interviewed Erinn Lobdell. She left the game in 3rd place during the finale of Survivor Tocantins. Erinn was marked for elimination by her tribemates in the 2nd episode, and she outplayed, outwitted, and outlasted every single one of them. Her pragmatic approach to the game and her great sense of humor made her a delight to watch and a favorite of many.

SFP Interview: Taj Johnson-George from Survivor Tocantins

Today we interviewed Taj Johnson-George. She left the game in 4th place during the finale of Survivor Tocantins. Taj surprised herself and most everyone else with how well she did in the game. Her confessionals and reaction shots during Tribal Council provided some of the best comedic moments of the season, and demonstrated that she was also a shrewd strategist.

Tocantins Finale

For only the 2nd time in Survivor history we had a unanimous vote for the winner. Were you as surprised as we were by that? Did you agree with the decision to get rid of Taj in 4th? Would it really have been a no brainer to take Erinn to the end too?

Congratulations to Debbie A, winner of the Survivor Tocantins JSFL!

She jumped from an 8 way tie for 12th to the #1 spot by not only guessing the final four order correctly but also picking JT as her original USB before the first episode ever aired and sticking with him till the end.

Tocantins Episode 13

Tocantins Episode 12 LF

We were pretty evenly split on this last episode. Half of us liked it and about half didn't. The same can be said for our response to the way the family visit works now. Some of us long for the days when it really added some drama because not everyone got a visit. The other half really enjoys getting to see all the family members and how the castaways react to them. Tocantins Episode 12

Some may complain that the game has become too predictable at this stage as we watch the Timbira members drop one by one. We feel that the editing has been excellent in contrast though. We are never quite sure how it is going to play out as the focus continues to swing back and forth from one potential vote out candidate to another, keeping us guessing until the final vote is counted.

Do you want to see coach in the final two? What would you tell him to calm his fears after seeing Debbie voted out? Have Stephen and JT become too confident? Would you vote to give a millionaire another million?

Tocantins Episode 11

Amazing isn't it? Jalapao came into the merge down in numbers 6 to 4 and thanks to Joe's injury almost immediately made it even worse becoming 6 vs 3. It should have been a simple task for Timbira to pick them off one by one and coast into the final Tribal Council. But, against all odds the Jalapao 3 haved more than evened the odds and appear with Erinn's allegiance to now have the advantage.

Is there a secret, all female alliance in the works? How come we see so little of Taj? Do you think Deb will really turn on coach? Does she constantly defer to him to placate him, or does she perhaps not believe she deserves to go further in the game? Stephen said Sierra was erratic and a threat in challenges, but he liked coach because he was neither of those. What happened the last time someone said they liked coach because he was predictable?

SFP Interview: Castoff from Episode 10 Survivor Tocantins

This week we interviewed Tyson Apostol. He left the game in episode 10 of Survivor Tocantins. Tyson was this season's powerhouse physical threat, so it makes sense that they would jump at the chance to take him out the first time he didn't win individual immunity.

Tocantins Episode 10

Turns out Sierra was blindsided at Tribal council after allafterall. Fans of the show recognize extreme overconfidence as a danger sign but those that aren't as familiar with this history seem doomed to suffer through it, again and again and again. Tyson certainly just became our new poster boy for gloating all the way to the jury.

Sierra was spared this time, but she doesn't appear to have endeared herself to anyone left in the game. Will she get to hang around long enough to see Coach and Deb be eliminated or will they decide that it's better for her to leave next? What do think Erinn's chances are to win it all? Has Stephen decided like Brendan that he's there to help JT win?

Oh yeah. You knew there would be a lot of folks that wanted to talk about the last episode. Most of us feel like we got blindsided right along with Brendan, and coach provided so much material that many of you self edited to avoid showering him with more attention. Many of you aren't buying the previews and think Sierra will not be the next to go. Several of you offered some interesting speculation about her chances, especially if she chooses to out the exile alliance and their idol.

Tocantins Episode 5

Episode 5 brings us the solidification of the "awesome foursome inter-tribe alliance" and what may be its downfall all in one fell swoop. What was your take on Stephen's reasoning? Is he committed or will he cause it to unravel?

Who's more at risk: Taj or Brendan? When you hear these two words together "Charmin Cafe", does it conjure up a positive image? Do you think Ben is guaranteed to make the merge now? There is still no talk of a tribe shake up and no one ever mentions the mutiny option. Will the tribes stay the same until the merge? Do you think Jalapao can recover?

While many of us expressed our disappointment that Sandy won't be there now to make us laugh each week, there was also some great strategic discussion in this week's Listener Feedback. Many of you pondered the potential of the inter-tribe alliance and the possibility of seeing HIIs played in episode 5. Tocantins Episode 4

After episode 4, the tribes are even again. That makes it prime time for a tribal shuffle.

What did you make of Timbira's "pow-wow" to select a leader? Taj had no problem bringing Stephen and Sierra into the "Secret Alliance". Do you think it stands a chance in the long run of the game? Tocantins Episode 3

With episode 3, we transition from one combo challenge per episode to separate reward and immunity challenges providing two opportunities for each player to convince their tribe that they can't live without them or make the choice for who to vote for at tribal council much easier.

Erinn appeared to catch another break this week, but what did you think of her willingness to criticize her tribe again at Tribal Council? Did we get a glimpse of the final four this week: Taj, Brendan, Stephen and Sierra? Is Tyson playing Ben or is he really ok with being his assistant coach? Do you think Taj found the HII too? Would you hide the HII like Brendan did or keep it on you or with your stuff at all times?

Tocantins Episode 2

Oh yeah! The challenge in episode 2 was everything we hoped for.

Both tribes provided some fierce gameplay that may result in some lasting resentments. Would you go all out and punish the other tribe in an attempt to win or try to do just enough to get by?

Sandy dodged another bullet, but Sierra seemed at times like she was trying to make it easy to vote her out? Were you surprised and blindsided at Tribal council too? Can you tell who's leading Timbira now based on how the votes played out? How do you think Taj's famous husband will affect her standing in the game?

It's great to have Survivor back, and Brazil in HD is magnificent.

We certainly ended up changing our first impressions of several of the new castaways during this first episode.

The producers of Surivor have orchestrated this season to emphasize first impressions which coincides with a tradition here at the Survivor Fans Podcast.

This is Part I of our "Judge a Book by its Cover" show. We've recorded our perspective on each new castaway including how well we think they'll do in the overall game as well as some extra details revealed in the TV Guide preview.

Now it is your turn. We want to hear what you think about the 16 new contestants for Survivor Tocantins.

The time has arrived to kickoff the 18th season of Survivor. This marks our 9th season of podcasting about Survivor, what we refer to as one of our life's simple pleasures. Basically, we enjoy watching Survivor and talking about it with our friends, and we begin each season with our "Judge a Book by its Cover" show.

We had another great adventure at the Survivor Gabon finale!

In this podcast, we recap the finale and share details of our trip. It was really exciting because we were able to sit in the audience for the first time, and we were able to do interviews on the Red Carpet!

Congratulations to John D, winner of the Gabon JSFL!

He was the only player to get the final four order correct! He jumped from a 16 way tie for 6th to first with a resounding 104 total points.

Gabon Episode 12

It was really great to be back at a Tribal Council that involved some suspense.

The "Amazing Bob" train appears to have a full head of steam at this point. It was certainly interesting to see how easily Ken and Crystal flipped to Bob and Corinne's plan. Do you think Bob will be able to escape the focused wrath of Kenny? Do you think Kenny will be able to recover from voting for Matty?

What did you think about Crystal's choice of Sugar as her first pick at the Reward Challenge? What kind of "reward" challenge is it when everyone gets the reward? What did you think of Matty's proposal? Did you believe it was evidence of his new found maturity? How likely is it that Bob will fool someone else with another fake idol? Was there anything in the recap show that you thought was noteworthy?

Shane's Survivor Holiday

Several of us imagined elaborate plans for how Bob might take advantage of his fake HII. Very few if any saw its potential as a masterful joke constructed by Sugar. Do you think he made the best choice for himself?

Susie guaranteed herself three more days by winning individual immunity. Who saw that coming? We've seen a couple of significant swing vote scenarios in the last two episodes. Wow, Dr Feelgood made an early exit. Most of us didn't see that one coming, but six savvy JSFL players were rewarded with a 2 point FoJ, First on Jury, bonus this week!

Sugar surprised no one by crying after learning that she had betrayed the one person that had consistently protected her. Bob was sure regretting last week's choice too. Do you think it would have hurt Marcus in any way to let Susie pick who they were voting out this week?

Was it truly wise to discard the HII or would you have taken it to guarantee yourself at least 3 more days? Do you think Susie really stands a chance to make it to final 3? Why is Kenny so confident that he will make final 4?

Gabon Episode 7

Woohoo! We got our first blindside plus a masterful demonstration of vote splitting to flush a potential HII.

Sugar betrayed the one person that had consistently protected her. So, who really turned out to the be snake in that alliance? Dan's social awkwardness and lack of impulse control around food sealed his fate. Do you think it will be a better long term choice to stick with fickle Susie?

Poor Matty. He's on the outside at Fang and viewed as a physical threat by Kota. Will he be our next quitter or the next one voted out? Is Sugar really better off with Ken and Crystal instead of Ace and Matty? Do you think Marcus will bring her into the Onion alliance or will they simply use the same technique they used on Dan to flush out the real HII? Do you think we'll see a merge in the next episode and has Randy completely lost it or has he secured himself a spot in the final four?

Gabon Episode 6

For better or worse, it seems safe to say that Kelly always spoke her mind. Unfortunately for her, that seemed to secure her a spot at Loser's Lodge instead of a place in the merged tribe.

The Brat alliance is down to two remaining members and they will very likely go in their own respective directions very soon now. Do you think the ongoing fragmentation in Fang will leave them all as free agents once the merge occurs? Will new Kota stay tight if a wealth of new voting options opens up?

Not only is Dan comfortable enough to share his leadership style now, he also is at ease enough to eat until he's full and ignore the unspoken rules of appropriate food proportions. Susie's position seems to improve every time Dan acts on an impulse. Do you think Randy stepped over the line this time? Will his gloating come back to haunt him? Do you think Matty will keep his word to Ace? Is Sugar playing a strategic game or just following instructions?

Gabon Episode 5

Uhg, at least the first person that quit last season was suffering from a broken jaw. Who knows, maybe GC will get to DJ at the finale.

The Brat alliance led by the Evil 3 took a big hit this week. Will this spell the end for them or will they rally to take down Ace as their losing streak continues?

Dan's so comfortable at the new Kota tribe, that he's decided to let his true self show through. Do you think he might have just made himself a bigger target than quiet Susie? How is it that Kelly lasted longer than GC? Do you think there's any chance that Fang can rally at this point? Have you started rooting for Ace yet?

Whew, that took a lot more work than usual. We finished recording this 2.5 hour show and then realized that most of the audio saved on the PC was unusable. We had so much fun compiling and recording all of your comments that we knew we had to fix it and get it out to you. Fortunately, we record with a backup and we were able to recover most of it. The audio quality where we read or respond in the last 2/3s of the show suffered quite a bit in the process, but we hope it's still something you can enjoy.

Gabon Episode 3

Now that both tribes have gotten rid of the "weakest" players, it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Poor Paloma never really seemed to have a chance. She appeared to share some negative qualities with Michelle which similarly set her on a course to leave early. Go back and look at her bio picture and then consider how she carried herself in the game. It's like looking at two different people. Was she perhaps trying to con everyone much like Ace?

Randy's head wound seems to be healed, but now he seems to be on a crash course with GC. Which will go first Randy or the Golden Child? Are the seams in Ace's con game starting to show or is he the real deal? Given the opportunity, would you have voted him out instead of Paloma? Who's playing the better game: Ace or Sugar? Do you think we're likely to see a tribe shuffle next week?

Woohoo! Survivor's back and finally in HD which was every bit as stunning as we had always imagined.

Surprise, the Parvati clone turns out to not have any social game and the "older" female is singled out for being weak. Well that first one was a surprise for many of us even though Jeff Probst essentianly called it for both women in the pre-season interviews.

In fact, it has been so good that we need to close registration early to make sure we keep it at a manageable number of players.

It's time for our pre-season Judge A Book By Its Cover show.

That's right, we're sharing our impressions of the new castaways before we even get to see the first episode. The instructions for this show were to study the bios, intro videos and the TV Guide preview to gleen some insight.

Jason really is a winner if you grade him against his primary objective in the game. He wanted to prove that he could beat Ozzy, and he certainly demonstrated that he could exceed him even when it came to making blunders.

Let's call this episode "Eliza Strikes Back"! Cirie certainly seemed to pay attention to what she said and then acted on it to get rid of her next biggest threat.

Do you think Parvati made the best long term choice for herself? If Eliza, Ozzy, James, and Amanda all end up in the jury, can you see her getting their votes? Who do you think has the best chance to make final 3 three now? Amanda appears to have dropped even further out of the running. Her only remaining ally is James given that Parvati and Cirie shut her out of their plans. Can you see anyway she could fight her way back in? What are the chances that a guy can make final 4?

Yes! We finally get to see the Hidden Immunity Idol played. It just wasn't played by the person we expected or with quite the conviction we were hoping for. What a surprise to find out that Eric had enough of a sense of humor and wit to pull one over on the whole tribe.

Anyone else think we just watched Amanda get replaced by Alexis? Which of those two do you think will be voted out first? Did Ozzy's loss to Jason help take some of the focus off of him as the leader and prime target? Do you think Parvati's multiple alliance commitments will get her into trouble? Could it cost her the game? Do you think Ozzy would ever give the HII away to someone when he had won individual immunity?

The producers appear to have found a way to avoid those awkward unpopular double elimination episodes. They just make sure to stack the tribes with people who can't hack it. Would you have ever thought that we would see a worse quitter than Osten from Pearl Islands? It's easy to think given the multitude of recruits in past seasons that it might happen, but who would have guessed that we would be subjected to one on a season of supposed "Super Fans"?

Unfortunately, we're faced with another quitter this week. What were your thoughts on how Kathy left? What did you think of Ozzy's performance this week? How about Cirie? Remember: Survivor is on Wednesday night this week!

The LF shows are where you get to co-host the show with us and share your views on the most recent episode and predictions for what we can expect next. We all need to vent about Chet one more time and release that bitter memory. Another theme for this episode is whether or not Jason really believes he found the HII. Of course several folks want to pay tribute to Jonathan and were very sad to see him leave, and everyone has their version of who's playing the best game at this point that they want to share.

Micronesia Episode 6

I think we have our answer as to who's the powerhouse player in Malakal. Tracy doesn't stand a chance against Cirie now.

Can you believe Chet is finally gone? Did anyone else feel conflicted at the possibility that he might hang around just long enough to knock out Ozzy too? What did you think about Penner's exit from the game? What did you think of Jason's announcement upon returning from Exile Island? Was it a cover story or did he truly realize he has a fake? Which pair do you think will get voted out first: Tracy and Erik or Parvati and James?

Micronesia Episode 5 LF

What better way to celebrate reaching our 200th episode than to get feedback from 25 die hard Survivor fans!

The LF shows are where you get to co-host the show with us and share your views on the most recent episode and predictions for what we can expect next. Sounds like Joel won some of you over in his interview. We didn't believe everything he was selling, but most of us did believe he was a genuine fan of the show. As a group, we're still very polarized for and against specific Survivors that are still in the game. Many of us also felt bad for Chet as he was dragged through the reward challenge, but couldn't stop laughing at the same time. Everyone seems to be concerned that Jonathan will be forced to leave for medical reasons this week. Thanks to everyone that sent feedback this week and for helping us celebrate reaching this milestone in the podcast!

Well, now that Cirie and Tracy are on the same tribe we'll really be able to sort out who the top dog is in Survivor Micronesia.

Who's your vote for the best blindside face so far this season?: MikeyB when Mary was voted out or Joel when the karma train came calling? What do you think Ami's best play is? Should she defect to Tracy's weakling coalition? How long do you think we'll have to wait to see if Jason plays the fake HII? Was it a mistake for Ozzy to tell the Pleasure Alliance about the HII? What do you think your best play is if you think you found an HII?

What would you do if you were in Jonathan's shoes? Do you risk it and wait until there are obvious signs that it's infected and your health begins to deteriorate? Is there anything you could do from a "bush medicine" perspective to help it heal?

It's official. The Listener Feedback show has moved to Mondays, and what better way to celebrate the move to a new night than breaking last weeks record for the most feedback in one week!

Micronesia Episode 4

There's a new alpha male in the Airai tribe and her name is Tracy. To quote Yogi Berra, "This is like deja vu all over again." Is anyone else struck by the similarities in the episodes week to week as the balance plays back and forth between the tribes?

I want to say this was a blindside again, but after watching the video at CBS where you get to hear what everyone says when they vote, it appears that Mikey B knew it was coming. What's your view on Tracy after seeing her work her magic on Joel? Do you think that was a smart play for Joel? Was it the best play for the Airai tribe?

Can you think of anyone that has ever been as good as Ozzy at figuring out the optimal approach to a challenge? How do you think Alexis' assessment of Ozzy affected her fellow Airai tribemates? Do you think Kathy has quit and is just along for the ride at this point? What did you think of Eeyore, the fake Hidden Immunity Idol?

Micronesia Episode 3 LF

We've got a record number of people for tonight's Listener Feedback show and it's full of back and forth banter with the listeners too!

The LF shows are where you get to co-host the show with us and share your views on the most recent episode and predictions for what we can expect next. Seems like we were split this week on how to interpret Cirie's actions. Some folks loved how she stood up for herself and others wondered what happened to the previous Cirie they used to cheer for as an underdog. Most of us seemed to agree on Jonathan though. He appears to be doomed although Doug does mention a scenario that might offer him hope. Several folks mentioned that they really enjoyed seeing Erik bang Eliza in the head with the cushion continuing her head trauma trend for this season. Paul's right. They should look into getting that girl some head gear before she ends up with a concussion.

Micronesia Episode 3

There's a new alpha male in the Malakal tribe and her name is Cirie.

The blindsides continued, but this time it was the audience and not a Survivor on the receiving end. The brutal, extreme, battle ends up being a reward challenge which threw the basis for most of our guesses about who would go home out the window. Kudos to the fans this week though. As Joel said, they got beat twice this week: once by the Favs and then again by mother nature. Then, they somehow find the strength to hang in and win an endurance challenge for immunity.

What do you think about the new female, final 3 alliance in the Favs tribe? Do you think they can keep it together and ride it all the way to the end? Do you think Jonathan and Ami stand a chance now that they've been excluded from the "Pleasure Alliance"? Who do you think will go first from the Fans: Joel or MikeyB?
