Fri, 25 November 2005 ![]() Happy Turkey Day Survivor Fans, Did you watch any football today? Did you see that quarterback get sacked? Looks like the outcome of this season is set now, at least for the next couple of shows. Do you think there's any opportunity to change the course of the game at this point? Here's where XHAKUM stands now: Lydia, Danni, Cindy, Judd, Rafe, and Stephenie Who's your pick for the next to join the jury? Jo Ann says it will be Danni. Stacy says the power 4 will vote emotionally, and Lydia will be the next one voted out. Looking back at this episode, who do you think Cindy should have taken on the reward challenge? Do you think Rafe would have been any better off to flip and join Gary, Danni, and Lydia? Help us put together our "Favorite Moments from Guatemala" video. What scenes should we include? Wed, 23 November 2005 ![]() Greetings Survivor Fans, Now gather round boys and girls. It's time for another spectacular round of Listener Feedback. Before we get to the meat of it though, Jo Ann and I would like to thank all of you that listen in and participate in the show. We're thankful for being able to share this simple pleasure with each of you every week. Producing this podcast with you has elevated something we always enjoyed to an event that we really look forward to each week. We get excited like little kids whenever we hear from one of you or see a spike in the stats for the show. :) It's brought us a lot of joy and we hope you share in that too. Once again, there's lots of great analysis to share, so let's dig in. This week we hear from Bill, Shelley, Bob, Sandi, and Drew. And just in case you had not heard yet, there is a new episode on Thursday, and it should be a really good one! :) We want to hear from you, and each week we create a special show just like this one for that very purpose. Thu, 3 November 2005 ![]() Greetings Survivor Fans, There's a new bad guy in town. Jamie transitioned from a silly nuisance to a full blown villain. Who do you dislike more, Judd or Jaime? Here's a tough one. Let's say Jaimie and Judd were the final two. Who would you vote for? Here's the newly merged XHAKUM, "sha-koom", tribe, where the * indicates members of the original Yax'ha tribe and no asterix indicates members of the orignial Nakum tribe. They're also listed from left to right in New Yax'ha to New Nakum order. XHAKUM: (Bobby Jon, Danni, Gary*), (Cindy, Judd, Jaime*, Lydia*, Rafe*, and Stephanie*) We believe Bobby Jon will be the next to go. Who's your pick? Ok, time for you to exercise those prognostication skills. Who do you think will be in the final 2? Shelley from Australia came up with a couple of really good questions for this week's Listener Feedback show too. 1) If Jeff Probst left the show, who would you pick to replace him? 2) Which season of Survivor had the worst food situation? Get your answers to us by Tuesday so we can include them in the Listener Feedback show. We've got several ways you can join in and participate. Thu, 27 October 2005 ![]() Hidy Ho Survivor Fans, Let's take a moment to salute Survivor Sergeant Amy. She was one tough player and we were sorry to see her go. We initially thought she'd be among the first to get the boot, but much to our delight, she kept her attitude in check, played through the pain, and kept her tribe entertained. Moving on, did you see the merge coming or were you surprised? It was kinda anti-climatic to happen at the very end of the show though, don't you think? Here's the breakdown for the newly merged tribe, where the * indicates members of the original Yax'ha tribe and no asterix indicates members of the orignial Nakum tribe. They're also listed from left to right in New Yax'ha to New Nakum order. Merged Tribe: (Bobby Jon, Brandon, Danni, Gary*), (Cindy, Judd, Jaime*, Lydia*, Rafe*, and Stephanie*) We were once again unanimous with our pick for next week. We think Stephanie and company will stick together to ensure Bobby Jon's departure. Who's your pick for the next to get voted off? Do the four remaining members of New Yax'ha have a chance, or will the moron squad from New Nakum pick them off one by one in the coming weeks? Super Bonus Round: Now that they've merged, it's time to go out on a limb. Who's your pick for the final two? :) Lastly, who wants to join Stacy for a zipline tree top tour in Kauai? We just luvs the listener feedbacks. So much so that we dedicate a special show to it every Tuesday. Let us know what you thought about episode 7. Fri, 21 October 2005 ![]() Welcome Survivor Fans! It's double elimination time in episode 6. Both teams feel the pain regardless of if they win or lose. Brian the brain bit the big one. I guess it says a lot for wounded Amy that they think she's stronger than a healthy Brian. So, was anyone remotely surprised that Margaret was voted out? How much longer do you think Jughead Judd will be around? Do you think there are anymore surprises in store or will it follow a predictable pattern from here on out? Seems way too early, but do you think there is a chance that they'll merge next week? Here's how the tribes stand now, where the * indicates members of the old Yax'ha tribe and no asterix indicates members of the old Nakum tribe. New Yax'ha: Amy*, Gary*, Bobby Jon, Brandon, and Danni New Nakum: Cindy, Judd, Jaime*, Lydia*, Rafe*, and Stephanie* If it's Yax'ha, we think Amy will finally have to go. She cranked up the 'ol "Whine & Cry" show again, but this time she went extra dark and started in very harshly on Bobby Jon. Is she still your favorite after getting to hear all that negativity come pouring out? Looks like Amy's going to get plowed by a boulder next time. Will it be bad enough to knock her out of the game? Who's going next? What if it's a double elimination? Here's how the tribes stand now, where the * indicates members of the old Yax'ha tribe and no asterix indicates members of the old Nakum tribe. New Yax'ha: Amy*, Brian*, Gary*, Bobby Jon, Brandon, and Danni New Nakum: Cindy, Judd, Margaret, Jaime*, Lydia*, Rafe*, and Stephanie* We're sticking with our picks from last week. If it's Yax'ha, we think a reinjured Amy will have to go. If it's Nakum, we're still picking Margaret. Let us know what you think. You can call and leave a voicemail at 206-350-JASS(5277). We've got another great set of emails and audio files from some of the passionate Survivor Fans out there, and an extra special treat from listener Enzo in Japan. Thu, 6 October 2005 ![]() Hello Survivor Fans! It's time for Listener Feedback on Episode 3. In this episode we hear from Drew, Melinda, Shelley, Sandi, and Bill. Drew replies, "When I mentioned that Bobby Jon seems a little more slow this time around... I really meant slow as in not all that bright." Shelley asks, "What are your favorite moments in all of the shows and least favorites?" She goes on to say, "My favorites is Rupert stealing the shoes in the first episode and least favorites are the outcasts coming back, jon's lie and the twist in Guatemala." The incredibly astute, highly intelligent Sandi comments, "Stacy’s right...". She makes some other brilliant observations too, but you'll have to listen to the podcast to hear them all. :) Bill weighs in with another round of excellent observations about multiple aspects of the show and episode 3 in particular. Brianna reveals on Survivor Live that she's lazy and had no strategy. Go figure! Let us know what you think. You can call and leave a voicemail at 206-350-JASS(5277). Sun, 2 October 2005 ![]() Hello Survivor Fans! Let's talk about what happened in episode 3. Did you think Brianna was the right choice, or should they have chosen Amy who may have seriously damaged her ankle? Do you think Yax'ha has a chance, or is Stephanie doomed to be a perpetual loser? :) Jo Ann's pick for the next to go in episode 4 is Judd if Nakum loses and Lydia if Yaxha loses. Stacy is sticking with his pick from last week for Nakum, and says it will be Bobby Jon. He thinks Amy will have a hard road to recovery and therefore favors her as the next to go for Yaxha. Who's your pick? As many of the listeners have pointed out, the producers love to change things up, especially when it appears that a tribe is comfortable in their strategy and decisions. Do you think there's a big change in store for episode 4? If so, what would you want it to be? Let us know what you think. You can call and leave a voicemail at 206-350-JASS(5277). Sun, 2 October 2005 ![]() Hello Survivor Fans! We're doing something a little different this week. We're thrilled with the listener responses that are coming in this season. There's so much good info at times that we really need to break up the show into a couple of segments. Otherwise, our show about what happened and why on Survivor each week would end up being about twice as long as the actual TV episode. :) Here's our first ever segment dedicated to listener feedback focused on Survivor Guatemala with some specific details on episodes 1 and 2. In this episdoe we hear from Bill, Sharon, Shelley, Sandi, Gloria, Craig, and a special audio segment from Drew. Bill starts us off with a possible link to the tree that hit Blake in episode 1. Here's a picture of Cryosophila Stauracantha AKA "The Give and Take Tree" that we found with a Google search.
Now, here's a framegrab from episode 1 of the tree that fell on Blake.
What do you think? Is it a match? Check the links section below for more info and where Bill found it. Here's a picture we put together to help us think about Sandi's question. :)

Fri, 23 September 2005 ![]() Hello Survivor Fans! What did you think about episode 2? Did you agree with voting off Morgan? Why weren't Brianna or Rafe at risk? Unlike Stephanie, Lydia or Morgan, they performed really poorly in the reward challenge. Yet, they didn't even appear to be under consideration. While it was quite a shock to Morgan, we weren't suprised at all to see her get the boot this soon. If you go back to our preview show, you'll see that she was one of the early picks to get voted off before the merge. Jo Ann's pick for the next to go in episode 2 is Blake if Nakum loses and Rafe if Yaxha loses. Stacy says it will be Bobby Jon for Nakum or Brianna for Yaxha. Who's your pick? Let us know. Wed, 7 September 2005 ![]() Hello Survivor Fans, This is part 2 of our 2 part Survivor Guatemala preview show. In these 2 episodes, we read through the bios and studied the pictures starting with Jaime and continuing through Rafe. Just like in part 1, we gave our feedback based on this data plus whatever we could gleen from the Early Show video preview. This segment concludes with summaries provided by listeners Bill, Gloria, and a special editorial commentary by Enzo. We've also made the preview video from the early show available . It's a chance to get a better glimpse of the new Survivors beyond the static pictures and cheesy bios. It's an MPEG2 file and it's quite large weighing in at about 55MB. I can't guarantee it will play on everyone's machine. If you have trouble with it, let us know via email and I'll see about re-encoding it into other formats. I recommend you do a "save as" instead of just clicking the link: Survivor Guatemala Early Show Preview Video So lets wrap up at guessing who from this new batch of Survivor contestants will be the first to go and listing the reasons we think each person may or may not have a chance at winning. If you have comments or feedback, you can call and leave a voicemail at 206-350-JASS(5277). You can record an audio comment on your PC and send it to us via email at joannandstacyshow@gmail.com. There are some definite cut-outs and garbled phrases in this segment that appear to be related to the automatic clipper/limiter function. It's not your player, it's us actively learning a new application. We'll try to make sure that doesn't happen again. We're playing music from the podsafe music network. Tue, 6 September 2005 ![]() Hello Survivor Fans, This is part 1 of our 2 part Survivor Guatemala preview show. In these 2 episodes, we'll read through the bios and study the pictures of each player. Then we give our feedback based solely on this data. We'll be doing the show on Friday, September 2nd. We've got several ways for you to participate. You can call and leave a voicemail at 206-350-JASS(5277). You can record an audio comment on your PC/MAC and send it to us via email at joannandstacyshow@gmail.com. With either of those options, we'll include your audio right into the show. You can also send us your input as a normal email and we'll read it into the show when we record. Lastly, there's a link for comments on the webpage here. You can click that link and leave your picks for the biggest losers and most likely winners right on the page for all to see. We're trying out a new program called CastBlaster to record the show. Let us know if you notice any issues with the sound. Also, we're playing music from the podsafe music network. Make sure to check out that site if you're looking for some new tunes on your mp3 player. Sat, 16 July 2005 ![]() Hello Again Survivor Fans, Welcome to another of our special topic shows while Survivor is on summer hiatus. It's a whopper of a show as you can see from the show notes below. This time, we focus on the experience of applying to be on Survivor 12. We talk about the video production, answering the kooky questions on the application, and we spend some time reviewing a risk assessment of what it might mean to us if Stacy were to actually be selected. There's also an update on Tom Westman, a look at other entertainment options we're pursuing this summer, and don't forget that Survivor reruns begin on OLN TV on July 24th. Mon, 16 May 2005 Hi Survivor Fans, Tom Westman is Sole Survivor! Wow, it's over. So, was anyone truly suprised by who won? :) It's easy to say he was one of the best contestents to ever play the game. We'll have one more short, wrap-up show to close out our first season of podcasting with our focus on Surivor Palua. After that, well, we haven't completely figured out what we're going to do before Survivor Guatemala starts. Fri, 13 May 2005 Welcome Back Survivor Fans, Listener Feedback This was our best week yet for listener feedback. Dave chimed in via the comments section of the last show. You can scroll down and click the comments field to see exactly what he had to say. Sandy expected Katie would be the next one to leave. Bill provided a great, detailed prediction that covered the challenges as well as his expectation that Jenn would be the next to leave. Enzo is back with an audio update that we added directly into the show itself. He did a great job of assembling it and included intro/outro music as well as a title, "Do the Shuffle". We initially thought we might need to cut it down to specific clips, but after checking our storage budget, we decided to just include the whole thing for everyone to enjoy. Great job Enzo! Thanks again to all of you. It's the community aspect of this that makes it really special. We'd love to hear from more of you. Come on. There's only one show left. Who's your pick for final three, final two, and the sole survivor? To leave an audio comment, call 206-350-JASS(5277). Fri, 29 April 2005 Hello Again, Listener Feedback Both Bill and Enzo sent us their picks for this week along with some observations on how the show is shaping up. Bill's pick last week was particularly astute in that he accurately predicted the fall of the mighty Stephenie. Enzo's feedback said to watch for Greg to be voted off soon. He also highlighted what appeared to be an overt, extreme manipulation by Jeff Probst of Janu last week in Tribal Council. Several of the TV journalists agreed with Enzo and were quite vocal in calling foul on Probst. It's getting down to the wire. There will only be three more shows before this season is done. What do you think we should focus on when Survivor's over? Who's your pick for the next person to get voted off the island? To leave an audio comment, call 206-350-JASS(5277). Fri, 22 April 2005 Welcome Back, Woohoo! We got more listener feedback. :) Bill sent us an email asking for more complete coverage. He caught us making a format change which shortened the show and left out an item he really wanted to discuss. I think we have a plan to fix that now Bill, and thanks for sending in that request. We got our first voicemail from Laughing Pygmy, the host of the Pygmy Island website. Check our show on Episode 4 for some more background on his site. He included his predictions for the final two which was really cool. Sounds like he's a big fan of Stephenie too. We really enjoy the listener feedback. Hey, is there anyone out there that would be interested in doing an interview like the one we did with Survivor Fan Sandy? We got a device from Radio Shack that will let us make a digital recording of the call. We'll pay for the call and include it as a special segment on the show. We've got a set of sample questions we can send ahead of time to let you know what we're looking for. Let us know if you're interested. Send us feedback on the show or your pick for who's going to get voted off next. To leave an audio comment, call 206-350-JASS(5277). Fri, 15 April 2005 Welcome Back, It's time for a rundown of episode 9 of Survivor Palau. But first, we want to say a big "Thank You" to listener E. He sent us a note to chastise us, for being so harsh with our assessment of Ulong's mental capabilities. As E pointed out in his input, it's very likely that Bobby John can read given that he has a journalism degree. Jo Ann thinks he's cute, end of story. I still think he might have had someone doing his homework for him, but getting the feedback and sharing in the discussion of the show is what really makes podcasting special. We really enjoyed getting that email from E. It made our day. :) We'd love to hear from some of the other folks that are listening too. Send us your pick for who's going to get voted off next. They can't seem to win in any combination. Ulong, Ulose, Uout.... :) We're trying some new equipment for the show this week. Fri, 1 April 2005 Welcome Back, Here's our show on episode 7 of Survivor Palau. We're having a blast watching Ulong, the worst tribe ever to play the game, slowly self destruct. The sheer volume of mistakes they make turns every endeavor into a comedy of errors. :) We've also got a special treat this week. Our first interview is done. We had a great time talking about our favorite show with Survivor Fan Sandy. With our podcast generally running 30 minutes, we thought it would be best to post the interview seperately. Thu, 17 March 2005 Hello Again! Survivor moved to a new night and it was certainly a show full of surprises. The only thing we weren't suprised by this week was that Ulong managed to lose another challenge. :) There are a couple of operational changes to mention on our show this week too. First, I've been experimenting with the audio settings quite a bit lately, but I'm going to forgo the quest to eliminate the noise for now and just learn to live with that hissing sound in the background. I tried to remove it last week and didn't realize until I had already posted the show that it had some strange affect and created echos and some other audible oddities. We're going to switch the text portion of the update over to a slightly different format too. We aren't really getting any participation on the show :(, so I decided that I'll use this section to post the show notes, a brief guide to what we're saying when in the podcast. From what I understand while listening to Adam Curry on his Daily Source Code podcast, it'll be important to have this data because at some point in the future we'll be able to combine this information with the audio and be able to jump to specific sections that we want to listen to or just to support simple searching. Guess I need to go back and do this for the first few shows too. Fri, 11 March 2005 Greetings Survivor Fans! It's Thursday night and time for our our fifth show. First, we're both thrilled that Ulong finally did something as a team and gave Kim the boot! How do lazy people like that get cast to be on the show? I guess she fooled quite a few people along the way and really knew how to say just the right things to be selected. I bet she put more effort into getting chosen for the show than she did while she was there on the island. We came across a really interesting Survivor site this past week that we wanted to share with you. If you've ever thought you might want to be a contestant on the show you'll want to check it out. It's called Pygmy Island. The tag line is, "Out Write, Out Tape, Out Cast". It's dedicated to helping you prepare the best audition tape and interview to get you on the show. People who have applied for the show share their experiences. There was one really detailed account that we both enjoyed reading that described the trials and tribulations of a woman that almost made it to the final cut. It was very insightful and you'll enjoy it if you like behind the scenes information or just want some suggestions for when it's time to apply for season 12. :) We know Ulong is adrift as a team now with little hope of recovering. But it was interesting to get a little more insight into how Koror is shaping up this week too. Sounds like the lines are being drawn. The majority is Tom, Ian, Katie, Greg, and Jen on one side. The Koror minority is Coby, Caryn, Janu, and Willard. Unfortunately, it's not clear at this point that they'll ever be tested. I think Ulong now holds the record for a team with the most consecutive losses in any season of the show. From the previews for next week, it looks like things won't be getting any better for them either. Here's our picks for who'll go next. If it's Ulong, then we're going to say that James will go next. He really annoyed the ladies this week and they won't forget it. If a miracle happens and Koror ends up at tribal council, then we think it will be Caryn instead of Willard now. She's proven herself to be equally weak and she's definitely a lot more annoying. Who do you think would have won in an island sumo match between Janu and Angie, or how about a battle of weaklings with Kim vs. Caryn? Who's your pick for the next to leave, and who's going to win it all? The quickest and easiest way to participate is our new voicemail number. Leave us a message at 206-350-JASS(5277). Or you can always add a comment to this show or send us an email at: joannandstacyshow@gmail.com. Enjoy, Jo Ann and Stacy Comments[0] |
Fri, 4 March 2005 Hello Survivor Fans! We're back again with our fourth show focusing on episode 3 of Survivor Palau. This was a classic episode in that one of the characters that we both wanted to get the boot survived, and a strong but injured player left the game too early. That appears to happen all too often in this game. There was a small improvement in the editing of the show this week thanks to a short reward challenge. We actually get to hear Ibrehem talk this time. It was nice to see a few more interactions back in camp. Did anyone else think there was a chance that Tom or Ian could kill a shark with a sharp stick? :) Speaking of Koror, there's some obvious problems brewing there between Cayrn and Katie, but they managed to avoid having to thin the tribe again due to their strong overall teamwork. I bet they will not have any problems deciding who leaves if they ever do end up at tribal council. Did anyone else think that was a particularly crappy reward for this week's reward challenge? How is sewing gear and some materials going to get you excited in those conditions. How about some food or materials to improve camp like a tarp? That looked more like a desperation reward. As in, "if we don't get them clothes soon, they're all going to end up naked". :) If you are not aware of it, CBS has a nice additional show that airs on the Internet on Fridays called Survivor Live. They interview the most recently ejected contestant and get to ask some more in depth questions. You can call in and ask questions too if you're one of the lucky ones that gets through. Occasionaly, you get some good background stories that explain why the previous episode was edited strangely or just some extra details that they can't cover in the 1 hour show. If you're a fan of the show, you'll probably enjoy Survivor Live too. Here's our picks for who'll go next. If it's Ulong, then we're going with the safe bet and say that Kim will go next. She adds no value. Maybe they'll actually come together as a team and get rid of her. If there's an upset and Koror ends up at tribal council, then we think it will be Willard. Who's your pick for the next to leave? Do you like Palau so far? How does it compare to previous seasons? Leave us a comment or shoot us an email at: joannandstacyshow@gmail.com. Fri, 25 February 2005 Hi Again! Here's our third show that looks back at episode 2 of Survivor Palau. This season is progressing well, but we're conerned that we don't get to see more of the human interactions. The producers appear to have decided to focus more on the action events for this season. The "in camp" segments seem short, fragmented, and a few survivors don't appear to be getting any air time at all. The challenges continue to be more difficult than most of the events we have seen in the past. It looks like voting off the weaklings is the best route to go if this keeps up. Our accuracy for picking the next person voted off took a turn for the worse this week. Neither of us picked the person that got voted off, but it appears from her parting comments that she was ready to leave. So, the show's good and keeping us entertained and adding the whole podcast aspect has been a big boost to the fun factor. Truth be told, we are having as much fun creating these shows as we are watching the TV show. This last week was extra fun from an operational angle. We had a blast watching the download counter hit a milestone. We ended up with 122 downloads for our second show and 66 for the original premiere show. It will be interesting to see if anyone hangs around to listen to this one. :) Leave us a comment and let us know who you think will get voted off next. It's easy. Fri, 18 February 2005 Hello Survivor Fans! Survivor is back and and it started off with a zinger of an opening. Two contestants booted out within the first 15 mins of the show in a way that makes us think back to embarrasing scenes on the playground in grade school. I have to admit that I was surprised that one of the young and beautiful was dismissed so quickly. Not a single one of my picks from the premiere show was accurate, while Jo Ann nailed one of hers on the first call and her other two looked poised to go next should their team lose immunity. Our first impression of Jolanda was fairly accurate. She did turn out to be too brash for her own good. Of course you can never tell with how things get edited. We never see the whole story do we? :) Listen to the show and let us know what you think. I'm sure we'll be talking about this at work tomorrow. We would love to hear your views on the first episode too. The easiest way to respond is just to click on the comment link. If you prefer email, you can reach us at: Jo Ann and Stacy Show!. If you want to participate in the whole podcast aspect of this with us, record an audio comment, attach it to the email you send us, and we'll integrate it into our next show. Enjoy, Jo Ann and Stacy P.S. We also want to say a big thanks to the folks over at Podcast Alley. They added our show to their podcast directory and we've already seen several folks drop by and download it. Comments[1] |
Thu, 17 February 2005 Hi everyone! This is our premiere show and we're glad you stopped by to check it out. You can listen to the show by clicking on the POD icon or on the JASS20050215.mp3 filename down below. We really enjoy watching the TV show Survivor and thought it might make a good centerpiece for a weekly show. Each week after a new episode airs, we’ll record our view of what happened and include predictions and hopefully responses from you too. See if you agree with our predictions for who the first three to leave the show will be. Our first episode focuses on our impressions of the contestants for Survivor Palau from reviewing their pictures and brief descriptions on the website. We had fun offering our opinions on what each contestant's chances might be based solely on first impressions. Our next show should be out Friday after the first TV episode airs. Thanks for stopping by to check out the show. You can leave a quick comment by clicking the comment link below or email us here Jo Ann and Stacy Show!. You can send a normal email or record and attach your own audio comment that we can include in the next show. :) Enjoy, Jo Ann and Stacy Comments[0] |
